My name is Haroon and I will be your son’s teacher this year. Inshallah this year, I plan to cover a range of topics from Quran and sunnah to life skills. Our sessions will be conducted halaqa style, along with activities and outings to build brotherhood bond.
Youth Girls:
My name is Shireen and I am super excited to be your daughter’s Friday night school teacher this year. Our “classes” will be held at the masjid (1 East Main Street) from 7:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. I say classes in quotes because I don’t plan on conducting sessions in a typical classroom setting and structure. I hope to have the girls feel relaxed and calm while they read and reflect on different subjects covered in class. I do feel that cellphones can be a distraction and so I ask that every student leaves her cellphone at the door.
This year I plan to have the girls read Qur’anic ayahs (in Arabic and English) to practice reading that also relate to the umbrella theme of “Building Sisterhood Through the Names of Allah”. We will tackle 2-3 Names a week, hopefully giving the girls a better sense of the meanings of the Names while tying them into everyday life. I encourage all my students to use me as a resource to better themselves; if I cannot help them, I will guide them to someone who can. I hope that you all and I can work together to help our youth girls navigate their life journeys with Islam as their guide, inshallah. Please always feel free to reach out to me with any questions or concerns you may have.
