Please find below some of the frequently asked questions. If your question is not listed, please rest assured a member of the services committee will reach out by either the contact form on the Services Page (link at the bottom) or by emailing [email protected]. Jazakallah Khair.
Q: When do we need to confirm our date by?
A: Your event is considered booked once we have an executed contract and deposit is paid. With the exception of funerals and Dua/Azza, we ask for all other events this is done at least one month in advance of your event in order for us to arrange for volunteers and ensure all arrangements for set up is done.
Q: Do you have a kitchen or arrangements heating up food?
A: No, we do not have a kitchen. Please ensure your caterer provides all necessary supplies (trays and sternos) in order to keep food warm. We do not allow portable stoves or hot plates or microwaves to be brought into the masjid. There is a fridge that can be used but it must be cleaned out by the end of event.
Q: Are there any decoration limitations?
A: Per the contract, no fresh flowers are allowed in the Musallah area. Please note this is a masjid so any decorations with images and pictures of animals or people (anything not allowed typically in a masjid) are not allowed. We also do not allow fireworks anywhere on the masjid property. If you are working with a professional decorator, we ask they work with your ICHC services committee point of contact for any questions or concerns.
Q: Do you provide an officiant for weddings?
A: Yes, the Imam at ICHC is certified to legally conduct weddings in NJ and CT. If you would like to bring your own officiant, ICHC requires you obtain the state marriage certificate as well prior to conducting your nikah. Please be aware of the timelines for obtaining marriage certificates when scheduling your event. There is a separate fee for the Imam's services and must be paid directly to him (Services Committee can provide payment details).
Q: Are we allowed to take photos in the masjid?
A: Absolutely! We would love for you to capture all moments of your special events with photos and videos. Please also let volunteers know if you are ok with us sharing your photos on our gallery.
Q: Will the space be restricted to the community during my event?
A: The Musallah area is open to the community at all times for prayers. The multipurpose room is not while there is a private event. However, we do send out a communication to the community making them aware a private event is taking place and to be respectful of the family’s space.
Q: Is there a dress code?
A: A kind reminder, ICHC is a masjid first and foremost and a venue second. As such, we require visitors to be modestly dressed and covered. The contract stipulates what is considered modest for men and women and this will be enforced during the event by the volunteers. The masjid also provides thobes, abayas and hijaabs in the event that someone does not remember to bring or own modest wear.
Q: Do you provide cleaning services?
A: The event space is cleaned by our facilities staff prior to your event. However, the event host is responsible for cleaning up after their event, including clearing all the trash cans and placing the garbage outside in the dumpsters. Please reach out to services for more information on what your responsibilities are as renter of the space - this detail is provided within the rental contract.
